Kremlin and Cathedrals

Tretyakov Art Gallery

Enjoy a tour of the Tretyakov Art Gallery in the company of an expert guide. This is the national museum of Russia founded in 1856 by Pyotr Tretyakov. The collection, with its 100,000 exhibits, includes 5,000 work of ancient Russian art and world famous paintings by Russian and Soviet artists, as well as sculptures and graphic art.There is now a dedicated exhibition of icons, including works by Rubleev, in a newly renovated wing.

Sergiev Posad (Zagorsk)

An enlightening tour of the home of the Russian Orthodox Church, the residence of the Patriarch of All Russia, and a working monastery, with the Theological Academy. Its architectural ensemble of the 15-19th centuries represents all stages in the development of Russian architecture. The museum boasts a rich collection of icons of the 15-17th centuries, rare examples of folk art and Russian national costumes. This is a 2 hour drive from Moscow (75km). This site is also the home of the Russian toy making industry. (Please note the churches are closed to the public at weekends.)

Novodevichy Convent

The 'New Maidens' Convent is now a Museum in a beautiful setting by a lake outside the centre of Moscow. This is one of the finest examples of 16-19th century architecture, located on the territory of a former convent for ladies of noble birth. The convent is connected with many major events in Russian history, such as the Coronation of Boris Godunov, the fight over the Russian throne between Peter the Great and his troublesome sister Princess Sophia and the events of the War of 1812. To include a visit to the adjoining cemetery, please add 3 usd per person the tour price.

Moscow Metro Tour and Christ the Saviour Cathedral

No one should visit Moscow without travelling on the world famous Metro and viewing some of the highly impressive stations, built as the Palaces of the People. Travel by metro to the Christ the Saviour Cathedral. Here, tourists can experience unforgettable views over the city from a 46 metre high observation platform. In 1839 original construction commenced on a cathedral to commemorate the victory of the Russian army over Napoleon's troops. Its construction was financed by private donations from the Russian people and it was finished 44 years later. History has repeated itself, as this cathedral was recently rebuilt to virtually the same specifications, using much publicly donated funding following its destruction by Stalin in the 1930s.

Arbat (Shopping)

Arbat is a pedestrian shopping area and one of Moscow's most famous streets, it is also an art market, complete with instant portrait painters, soapbox poets, jugglers and buskers. Your guide will collect you from your hotel and take you to the Arbat area of Moscow. You may if you wish be left to shop alone at the end the tour.

Vladimir and Suzdal

Tour the famous Golden Ring in one day. You will need to be prepared for a long day of travelling (more than 12 hours!) and a cultural overload, - visiting historic churches, kremlins and museums of early Russian art, architecture and history! Vladimir was founded in 1108 and is dominated by the Assumption Cathedral and the Golden Gate. Suzdal, situated 35 Km North of Vladimir, is 'architecturally protected' and you will feel you have slipped back in time when visiting the Kremlin, the nativity of the Virgin Cathedral, the Monastery of the Deposition of the Holy Robe and other historic treasures.

Kuskovo Estate

The unique monument of the 18th century, Kuskovo Estate, located in Perovsky district of Moscow, used to be the summer residence of Count Pyotr Sheremetyev and his wife Varvara Cherkassova. In 1743 their joint proprty amounted to 1200 villages and 200,000 serfs. The architectural ensemble of the estate had been formed by the middle of the 18th century, just 12 km East of Moscow. The main woooden house overlooks the lake, where Sheremetyev used to stage mock sea battles for the enteratinment of Moscow's elite. The building also includes a small theatre where his favourite serfs would perform. One of the most interesting constructions at Kuskovo is the Grotto, constructed in 1755-1761 under supervision of F. Argunov. The stone baroque-style pavilion is richly decorated with sculptures in the niches, adornments on the pediments, and lions' masks above the windows. There are further buildings to visit in the grounds, making this a truly fascinating place to visit.
